THE TOP 5 ACTRESSES OF 2011

The Actresses took over 2011 and showed us that they can deliver stand out performances that do not require any Oscar or Major Award attention. Although in my list there are a couple Oscar winners, I think that some performances deserve notice and I plan on giving them that notice in this post. Click after the heartbeat to see who made the list.

5. Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson is one of the few women in the world who is able to go from performing in front a stadium of 50,000 people to delivering a stand out performance in 2 of the most emotionally charged movies of the year. Janet Jackson who played a woman going through a divorce in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too, showed so much emotion in a argument scene with a golf club that she stole the entire movie. Her continued acting prowess in the face of a divorce throughout the rest of the movie cemented her as the movie’s best actress. If that was not enough she seamlessly switched to another tough role in Tyler Perry’s next film For Colored Girls. I personally think that she was robbed of an Academy Award Nomination For Best Supporting Actress, but that’s just my opinion.

4. Anna Torv
You can always count on me to choose someone who has not received as much publicity as her peers. Anna Torv is one of the most underrated actresses on TV starring in the hit Sci-Fi drama Fringe on FOX. Anna Torv has been mentioned by Entertainment Weekly for years as being someone who deserves at the very least an Emmy nomination but that has continued to elude her, although her performances continue to get better with each passing season. Anna plays the tough and mysterious Agent Olivia Dunham on Fringe to rave reviews for every season of the show. Winning only the Scream and Saturn Awards for her amazing performance. I hope in the new year we see her winning an Emmy for her performance on Fringe and getting the acclaim that she deserves.

3. Emily VanCamp
The lovely Emily Vancamp stars as the devious Emily Thorne in the breakout hit Revenge on ABC. Emily is known for playing good girls like on TV’s Everwood and Brothers & Sisters. So that is why it was a surprise when she decided to take on the role of Emily Thorne in Revenge, a woman who is going after the people (and their families) who were responsible for the false imprisonment of her father. Emily VanCamp steals the show, showing off a devious side that makes many people squirm as they watch her handle her schemes. Revenge is not only the best new show on television but one of the highest rated shows period, averaging around 10 million viewers an episode. Make sure to check out Revenge through 2012 as Emily Thorne will be completing her revenge very soon.

2. Katie Holmes
Katie Holmes in recent years has become more famous for her very high profile marriage to superstar Tom Cruise. Well this year she decided to fight against that and gave an Emmy worthy performance as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in the controversial mini-series The Kennedys. Katie showed this year that she can deliver a performance worthy of Emmy nominations and is a serious actor with real talent. For that one powerful portrayal she is #2 on my list of top actresses for 2011.

1. The Cast Of Bridesmaids
Bridesmaids was the break out biggest movie of the year, for its jokes, non traditional chick flick antics, and raunchy bathroom humor, but the main reason for the success was the chemistry of the cast. Kristen Wig, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Rose Byrne, Wendie McLendon-Covey, and Ellie Kemper. It seems that these ladies have been riding the success of that film to extraordinary new heights with Golden Globe Nominations for Kristen Wig and the movie itself. Lovely and amazing the cast of Bridesmaids surpasses many other actresses as the top actresses of 2011, I can’t wait for the sequel.
