Jennifer Hudson, the Effie White of “Dreamgirls” will first appear in “Smash” premiere episode of season 2, which is slated to air in midseason. J-Hud’s recurring character is described as a Tony Award-winning Broadway star who impacts the lives of Karen and Ivy (Megan Hilty). “Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said.
